It increases happiness. Meditation puts you on the fast track to being happy.  Studies have shown that brain signaling increases in the left side of the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for positive emotions, while activity decreases in the right side, responsible for negative emotions. The other benefits of meditation, including increased self-awareness and acceptance, also contribute to improved overall well-being.

Meditation induces relaxation, which increases the compound nitric oxide that causes blood vessels to open up and subsequently, blood pressure to drop.

It slows aging. Studies show that meditation changes brain physiology to slow aging. Cognition seems to be preserved in meditators, they also have more gray matter – literally, more brain cells.  A study showed that meditators have longer telomeres, the caps on chromosomes indicative of biological age (rather than chronological). That meditation lengthens life may be a bit of a stretch, but there is something about meditation that is associated with longer telomeres, and perhaps that reduces stress and its effects on the body.

Control Anxiety
Meditate, and you’ll stress less in the moment, and you may be able to also stop yourself from worrying about the future. If you can learn from mediation that thoughts are just thoughts, and physical sensations are just physical sensations, you can more easily shut down the anxiety-causing negative self-talk about those feelings.

Feel Less Pain
Researchers put healthy participants in an MRI to see how their brains light up when they experience pain, and how meditation could change their evaluation of that pain. After only four days, meditation during pain was found to reduce the participants’ rating of unpleasantness by 57 percent, and also decreased the intensity by 40 percent. How? Meditation-induced reductions in pain were associated with increased activity in the areas involved with cognitive processing and reframing the contextual evaluation of sensory events — meaning the pain you feel can be reframed in your brain as less terrible and more tolerable.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a combination of two Japanese words rei and ki meaning universal life energy. Reiki is an ancient laying-on of hands healing technique that uses the life force energy to heal, balancing the subtle energies within our bodies. Reiki addresses physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances. This healing art is an effective delivery system. The Reiki practitioner serves as a vessel that supplies healing energies where they are most needed. Reiki’s ki-energies flow out of the practitioner’s body through the palms of the hands while they are touching the recipient’s body.

During the Reiki healing session the practitioner will place his hands lightly on different parts of your body. Some Reiki practitioners will follow a predetermined sequence of hand placements, allowing their hands to rest on each body placement for 2 to 5 minutes before moving on to the next. Empathic practitioners will freely move their hands in no particular order to the areas where they “feel” Reiki is most needed. Some Reiki practitioners do not actually touch their clients. Instead, they will hover their lifted palms a few inches above the reclined body. Either way, Reiki energies flow where they are suppose to. Reiki is a smart energy that automatically flows where the imbalances are in your body regardless of where the practitioner’s hands are placed.

Because Reiki energies flow to where they are most needed there is a Reiki phenomenon called “phantom hands” that you may or may not experience. Phantom hands feel as if the Reiki practitioner’s hands are touching one part of your body when they are actually elsewhere. For example, you may be able to see that the healer’s hands are actually placed on your stomach, but you could swear that hands are touching your legs. Feel Good with Raindrop Technique

Raindrop Technique® combines the art of aromatherapy with the techniques of Vita Flex ~ “vitality through the reflexes”  and feather stroke massage in the application of essential oils to various areas of the body. This collection provides a revolutionary means of bringing balance and harmony to the body – physically, mentally, and emotionally. The oils used in the technique are anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral. They aid the back and spine in detoxification. The oils also help with aligning the spine.

Raindrop Technique begins with a technique called Vitaflex that is performed on the feet. It is a  technique that creates slight pressure on the feet that jumpstarts the body’s systems. Oils are applied during the process. After both feet are Vitaflexed, the client rolls over and the Raindrop begins.

It involves dropping the oils directly onto the spine while holding the bottle 6 inches from the body.  That is where the name Raindrop comes from. After the oils are “raindropped” one at a time, they are feather stroked lightly on the spine. Other techniques are also used to help the oils work effectively on the spine and in the body.
